Which is the correct definition of a “save” in golf?
I read that you can count a sand shot or a chip/pitch as “saved” if the following putt is holed, regardless of score. I have also read that a sand shot or chip/pitch can only be considered “saved” if the golfer gets par on the hole. Which is correct? Thanks.
A save is when you get (save) par, but to do that you usually need to have an up and down (one chip, one putt). That’s why its often confused because commentators use them interchangably for tour players.
