How do you troubleshoot compatability for pre-Vista games on Windows Vista, if you can?

I have a Vista and I want to know how to make games not compatible for Vista playable on Vista.

Vistas main problem was exactly that. First go to the games website and see if a patch download is available. If not right click the games program icon and select Properties, then the Compatibility tab, check the box saying Run this program in compatibility mode for:, select Windows XP, click Apply, then OK.

This doesn’t always work there are a few games that no matter what you try don’t work. One I can think of is Fahrenheit. If you play any really old games for DOS download SCUMMVM to run them with that.
